How many students are in one class?
Maximum of 6 in ESL classes.
Can I get any certificates from VIA?
Yes, every student that finishes a program at VIA receives a certificate and a record of their grades.
Can I get a student card from VIA?
Yes, every student will receive a student card when they register.
How can I pay tuition fees?
You can pay by cash, cheque, credit card or bank transfer.
When should I apply if I want to enter a program in the Spring?
You can apply anytime, however, earlier is better because we have a limit of 6 students per class and classes fill up quickly in the Spring.
When should I pay the tuition if I want to extend my study term?
You should pay the next tuition fees before the last day of the term which is ending.
Can I change the program at the middle of my study term? (for example, if I don't like the program or want to study something different).
Yes, you can change programs at any time.
What kind of activities does VIA have?
VIA has a conversation club, "The Convo Club", barbecues, tours,
and seasonal events, such as Pumpkin carving contests for Halloween, Christmas
tree decorating, yacht cruising, kayaking, skiing, etc. We also arrange to
see hockey games, skiing, basketball games and major league baseball games.
Do I have to pay to go join "The Convo Club"?
No, it is free for students at VIA
Do you have Internet at the school?
Yes, students can use free high-speed Internet at any time.
Can I type Japanese / Korean / Chinese / Spanish / on VIA computers?
Yes, VIA computers can type in every language. |
What should I do in order to obtain a Letter of Acceptance from Victoria International Academy?
You can ask for a Letter of Acceptance to be mailed (by regular mail) or faxed to you. You can also fill out the registration
form at the Registration page and submit it to VIA. If you prefer to receive the registration form in the mail or by fax, you have to send us your mailing address, or fax number including the country code and city code. When you receive your registration form you have to complete all the required information and send it back to VIA. You can also email us at info@eslschoolcanada.com and request an application form. Together with your application you will need to send a deposit payment in order to secure your placement in the course.
The deposit payment should cover the following fees:
Registration fee - $100 CAD
Homestay Placement fee- $175 (if homestay is requested)
Tuition Fee (see Tuition Fee Schedule)
How do I pay the deposit?

In order to make a credit card payment you have to send us:
- The type of card
- The card number
- Expiry date
- The name of the primary cardholder
How soon can I get my Letter of Acceptance?
The Letter of Acceptance will be sent to you immediately after the school receives the confirmation of the deposit payment. If you are sending wire transfer, you have to fax the bank document to our fax number (250) 414-0103. The letter of enrollment will be sent and faxed (if you require) to you on the same day provided we receive your confirmation by 4pm Pacific Time. Otherwise, you will receive your letter on the next business day. If you want to receive your letter by courier, please, let us know. You will have to pay additional fees for this service - the amount depends on the location where you live.
When will I receive my Homestay family information?
If you request Homestay accommodation, you will receive the following information about your family at least 2 weeks prior to your arrival:
1- Your host's name, address and a telephone number
2- Ages, professions and interests of the family members
3- Distance to school and directions on how to get from your homestay to VIA (Victoria International Academy)
4- Photo of your host family in their home - only if you request it.
Our families are very friendly and committed to making your stay in their house a very pleasant experience. We monitor the homestay situation on the regular basis and we make sure that all your needs are satisfied. We know all of our host families well and we chose only the best ones, all who still receive thank you letters from their former students.
What happens if I don't receive my visa to enter Canada?
If your visa is denied, you will receive a refund of the prepaid course fees less the Registration fee and tuition deposit, which is non-refundable. In order to obtain your refund, you have to notify the school in writing, return the original Letter of Acceptance and provide the school with the Letter of Rejection from the Canadian immigration authorities at least 28 days before your course start date. If your registration reaches the school in less than 28 days prior to the course start date, you have to notify the school about visa denial at least 14 days before the course start date. Failure in complying with the above conditions will result in denial of the request for refund.
What happens after I arrive in Canada?
If you choose Airport Reception Service (a free service), a representative of VIA will meet you at the airport. After you collect your luggage and pass through customs, look for a sign with our logo on it. Our representative will help you with your suitcases and transport you to your host home. In order to use this service you have to give us the details of your flight at least one week in advance.
What will happen during my first day in school?
On your first day in school, you will meet the student coordinator and have an interview and placement test (a free service). Your score will help us place you in the class best for you. After the interview, you will enter your class.
How much time do I spend at school every day?
This depends on your class schedule. If you are a full-time student, you will begin classes at 9:00 and finish at 3:00. After then you can explore downtown, the harbour, and all the interesting places to visit in Victoria.
Can I get my health insurance in Canada?
You may want to buy your insurance in your country, but we recommend obtaining one in Canada. If you let us know, we will gladly make arrangements for you in advance, so you will be covered from your first day in Canada.
