Business English Program

Study with experienced English teachers with MBA degrees.

Certificate and Diploma programs

VIA Business Skills Program is for students interested in international business. Includes Business Grammar and Vocabulary, Business Writing, Meetings, and Negotiations. For students planning to study business at university or to use in the workplace. Business Skills and English Communication Skills are developed and used in simulated real-life business situations.

Business English program

Business Skills Certificate Program is 6 weeks and the Diploma Program is 12 weeks. These programs include all basic areas of business, including such topics as Human Resources, and Marketing. Students who graduate from these programs will understand the differences between the Internet, intranet, and extranet, what supply chain management is, and how to negotiate favourable terms. In addition, the courses include business grammar, and writing. English for Tourism is also included as it relates to business topics. Graduates of VIA Business Certificate Program will complete a 6 week certificate course.
Graduates of the VIA Business Diploma Program will complete a 12 week diploma course.
Graduates of both of these programs are ready to correspond and work in an international English environment.

VIA Certificate in Business

Week 1 - Human Resources

Hiring, arranging interviews, firing, writing resumes, cover letters.

Week 2 – Marketing / Advertising

Branding, piracy, market research, target / focus groups, ad design.

Week 3 - International Business / Negotiating

Currency exchange, international banking, shipping, import/export.

Week 4 - Information Technology / Operations Management

New software developments (ERP, CRM, SCM), just-in-time, batch, line process

Week 5 – Money / Ethics

Market trends, investments, transparency, bubbles, venture capital

Week 6 – Review, Final Exam

Week 7 - Organizational Design

Types of companies, company structures, communication, management styles

Week 8 – Innovation

Innovate or imitate, product development, patents

Week 9 - Risk

Types of insurance, risk management, IPO's, share value, market analysis

Week 10 - Finance / Competition

IPO, angel investors, competitive advantage, market leader, economies of scale

Week 11 – Strategy

Predictions, mergers and acquisitions, alliances, decision-making

Week 12 – Review, Final Exam
