Business Concepts in an ESL Context
VIA offers two Business English Programs for international students. The VIA Business English Skills Certificate is a 6 week Business concepts and English program. The VIA Business Skills Diploma is a 12 week Business concepts and English program
Based on the main components of an MBA degree, the VIA Business English Skills Program teaches business concepts in an ESL context. Each week has a new concept (i.e. marketing) and the English vocabulary and grammar related to that concept.
Each week also features a new skill (i.e. giving presentations) and once a month the class visits a different business to learn more about local businesses.
Business students study all the main components of a university business program, such as International Trade, Marketing, and Human Resources and all the related terms and usages. This is a morning program and is a popular choice for Co-op students.
VIA Business English Skills Program incorporates business vocabulary, speaking, reading, writing, listening, and grammar skills with essential business concepts. The lexical units of the program mirror more advanced business programs, such as Brands and Branding, Advertising and Marketing, International Trade, Business Ethics, Leadership, and Innovation. These units are taught in a challenging upper-intermediate ESL setting and focus on applying English skills to a real world business environment. Students will be expected to create marketing campaigns, develop new products, build business plans, and gain understanding of the global marketplace and how national economies have international effects.
